| The
firm of David Burrows was started in April 1989
with an office in Clevedon, near Bristol. The firm
then consisted of David Burrows and his secretary.
David had practised in partnership in Bristol since
1976 and had retired from his then practice at the
end of 1988. |

| The
aim of the new firm was to be a specialist family
and child law practice with an emphasis on LSC funded
work. |
| |
| In
1992 a branch office was set up in Bishopston, Bristol
which then moved to offices in Park Row in central
Bristol in April 1993. The office in Clevedon closed
in September 1998. All work is now concentrated
in Bristol. |

| The
aim of the firm remains to provide assistance in
family and child law. This now includes domestic
violence and other emergency family work, judicial
review, child support and education law. |

| The
firm continues to offer specialist advice, representation
and assistance in all areas of family and child
law. In particular the firm aims to provide a high
quality of training for all fee-earning staff and
to extend its range of specialist family law services;
primarily within Bristol but, to an extent, to a
wider range of clients and other firms of solicitors. |

firm’s definition of the term ‘family
and child law’ is as wide as possible and

routine divorce and financial relief including
larger asset cases where the wife might be eligible
for LSC funded work;
- child
care, adoption and wardship;

domestic violence (Family Law Act 1996 Part
IV and Protection from Harassment Act 1997);

Child Support Agency, local authorities (Children
Act 1989 s 17), education law, magistrates courts;

implied trusts, Trusts of Land and Appointment

has already been instructed as an expert witness
in a number of cases and has been asked to advise
(as counsel). This role has developed in part from
his exposure as a specialist and consultant through
teaching and writing, and through contacts in Solicitors
Family Law Association. |
